Nationalist causes have bent Psalm 2:8-9 to their own ends, and that is abuse. Christ will rule the nations with a rod of iron at his second coming. For now he rules as the child of 12:5, and his rule runs through the cross.
The woman’s child in 12:2 is Christ, the single promised seed of Abraham (Galatians 3:16). God hides the elect in him. Psalm 2 promises him the nations, and Matthew 18:3 shows that he rules now as a child.
