The sower’s parable supplies the pattern for thinking about members who wander from the church, since not every seed takes root the same way. Luke’s own narrative zeal, and the zeal of the healed lame man in Acts 3, both flow from a realm of glory that endures rather than from mere personal enthusiasm. Real zeal, on this reading, is borrowed rather than self-generated.
The parables of Luke 15, the lost sheep, coin, and son, are read here as being about church discipline rather than evangelism, a reversal of how they’re usually preached. Luke 16’s puzzling ‘mammon of unrighteousness’ gets its own careful treatment alongside that shift. A heavenly orientation, weighing earthly riches against heavenly ones, runs through both chapters together.
