Luke’s birth narrative gives the Holy Spirit a prominence Matthew’s does not, for two specific reasons the sermon lays out. Matthew tends to speak of the Spirit as already accomplished fact, Luke as still unfolding promise. It takes both together to finally carry believers toward heaven.
