"Comforter" Tagged Sermons
The Spirit as ‘Comforter,’ or Paraklete, does a new work, more than an old office with a new name. Lamentations voices the ache this new work answers. The Spirit who comforts the church confounds the world at the same moment, in one unified work.
In John 14 Christ’s coming physical absence brings an advance: greater works, greater access, and a glory his presence alone could not yet show. Verse 15 ties love to obedience, and 14:16-17 exalts the Spirit outright. By departing, Christ gives more of himself.
