The dragon and the beast make war on the saints and overcome them. Like Christ, the saints are sheep for the slaughter, and Jeremiah 15 speaks of captivity and the sword. Even so, the elect remain with God.
Matthew 8 tells of a storm on the sea and a legion of demons driven into it, and the church is present in both stories. Revelation 13 takes up Daniel’s prophecy of the beasts and surpasses it. The beast with the mortal wound in 13:3 stands at the center.
